Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison at University Book Store in Seattle

Taken from facebook.com/HarperVoyagerBooks
Last night was doing what I always do, waste time on my Twitter stream. Noticed that Penguin Books' editor Anne Sowards (she's really good) was spreading the word about a Livestream event that HarperVoyager was hosting. It was for a book signing, book reading, and Q&A with two of the Urban Fantasy "giants", Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison at University Book Store in Seattle.

Honestly, I didn't think much of it. I had work to do through the night, so thought I'd just play it in the background while I entered numbers into an Excel spreadsheet. Once the Livestream started, I couldn't stop watching it. Much better than expected, and tons of fun. I'm not a fan of watching people read books, I get easily bored, but really enjoyed this session. They read some short passages of their books, and proceeded to an extensive and fun Q&A.

I'm a big Patricia Briggs fan, together with Jim Butcher they were the ones that introduced me into the Urban Fantasy sub-genre, to which I will always be grateful. Kim Harrison I haven't read yet, though I've been meaning to. After seeing this session you bet your ass I'll be checking her out soon.

In any case, this was very good hour to spend time with. Considering that I don't think I'll ever go to one of these events personally, I hope more of them get streamed so that I can experience them.

There were a few spoilers, so be warned, I'm embedding the video here directly from HarperVoyager's Livestream, but you can also visit there and watch it.

Have fun!

  1. Gaa, I'm going to kick myself for admitting this.... I have not started Briggs' books yet. *cring* I have the first book of her Mercy series here to read. And need to get to it!

  2. @Melissa how about Harrison, have you read her? Quite curious. This session made me a believer, and I've seen plenty of praise.

  3. Do I really have to answer that question? Really?
