Welcome to Bastard Books (and other crap)

Sup, Bastard here

Decided to start a blog since I thought one or two people around the world could find some use for it. I don't care about writing reviews, but I'll see about posting some quick reactions to what I'm reading and make recommendations as I see fit. I usually post in SFFWorld in the Fantasy / Horror forum and I'm also a member of Goodreads though I've only bothered to rate what I'm reading rather than give reactions.

Well, let's see how this goes.

  1. Wow, started a blog and twitter account. I don't even know you anymore... :D Welcome to the parteeee.

Oh, I'm diggin' the layout here. I guess I should expect no less.

  2. But yeah, started this crap early this morning so other than a couple stumbles here and there, it was a fairly easy set-up.

Now to see what else the blog is missing to make it fully operational. But looks like the essentials are there.

  3. Haha, yes! I made a whole 10 bucks last year I think. Maybe it was 20. But I'm rakin' it in, as you can see. :)

Seriously looks good. I think less is more. I've been thinking about cutting back a ton of stuff on mine.

  4. Yours doesn't have a lot of stuff, just some long lists. Maybe create a Review Index page to better organize that list. And maybe remove the Goodreads Currently Reading Widget, doesn't look to good. Maybe you need to adjust the width as I had to do in mine so that it fit properly.

Other than that, everything else looks like it's in order. Maybe the Blogs List needing a bit of tidying up since each entry is taking a lot of space.

  5. Hmm. Looks like I have another blog to add to the feed reader.

Look on the bright side of things, even if it is only Seak and I following your blog, you already have a larger readership than mine. :P

  6. Hahaha, didn't know you had a blog. Since you recommended Sandman Slim to me, if I remember correctly, then I'll surely have a look around.

  7. I probably did, I have been pushing Kadrey for a while now. Speaking of which, I have Aloha From Hell coming in the mail sometime in the next week. Looking forward to that, even if I haven't read the last one yet.

  8. Lucky, I myself have it pre-ordered from Borders and since it comes out in October it seems doubtful that they'll honor that, but who knows what kind of contracts they have with the publishers that they would need to fulfill.

  9. I was lucky enough to snag a copy off Amazon Vine, especially since it was several hours after the newsletter went live, which usually means you are scavenging what's left of carcass that's already been picked clean.

  11. Thanks Mihir, we'll see how it goes. Might be forced to read a bit less Urban Fantasy than I'm currently doing to keep things a bit varied. Probably for the best.

  14. @Melissa

Hi Melissa, was aware you had a twitter account for a while now, but since I didn't have a "Bastard" twitter account setup I didn't bother with the whole twitter thing.

    @Travis

Sup. Don't know about a Goodreads vet, I just started on it almost exactly a year ago. For all intents and purposes I'm a reading newbie; just been doing a bit of catching up to all that I've missed. But don't expect much as far as review goes, just thinking of doing some informal reactions to what I'm reading and try to spread the word around to books that I think are worth it.

Anyways, thanks for the welcome guys. And hopefully the content here won't be too repetitive to what is already out there.
