And at the end the winner had not replied so she opened it to all who had entered originally. I think I was the first to reply to win a copy. I think Melissa H that she put on the winning list is me, but not 100% sure. But 99% it's me. But if I don't get the book in the mail, I WILL buy it. And it's going to be one of our discussion books that Robyn and I do, so I have to get it. ;)Melissa (My World...in words and pages)https://www.blogger.com/profile/09621830513280969319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748211313953490132.post-63615763326452600472011-08-28T23:40:31.129-04:002011-08-28T23:40:31.129-04:00You guys should tread a bit more carefully or you&...You guys should tread a bit more carefully or you'll inflate my ego to extraordinary proportions.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the 2nd Mihir, about to start the 3rd.

@Melissa, what do you mean "I think I won"?Bastardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06262625208142078301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748211313953490132.post-56819433276591182362011-08-28T23:36:14.131-04:002011-08-28T23:36:14.131-04:00@ B.
Charlie's stubborn nature was infuria...@ B.

Charlie's stubborn nature was infuriating to me and it seemed to affect her life more than it should have. The book's plot and magic setting compensate wonderfully for the protagonist's shortcomings IMHO.

The cover is distinctly C. McGrath's work, in fact I believe due to his characteristic drawing style, his covers are very easy to recognize. I feel D.D. Santos's work is a bit superior as his covers reflect some variety whereas with Chris, its all the same schtick.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd book TDEOD and now will be starting the third one soon as well.

@ Melissa

Congrats on winning the third book and thanks for your kind words. I'm glad, B. managed to get both of us interested in this series.Mihirhttp://www.fantasybookcritic.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748211313953490132.post-84076306144262921052011-08-28T20:25:54.576-04:002011-08-28T20:25:54.576-04:00Charlie is a more complex character than many norm...Charlie is a more complex character than many normal characters with the different levels she has going on here. I agree. Home, mother, work, and the changes happening. And they just grow from there.

Really a great review. I think I won a preorder of the third book, so I'm awaiting my copy to come. As far as UF goes, he and Daniel Dos Santos are the top two.Bastardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06262625208142078301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748211313953490132.post-5304025313138092472011-08-26T12:18:20.795-04:002011-08-26T12:18:20.795-04:00Myself, I understand where you are coming from. I can see where she becomes a bit too hardheaded and selfish, but I think that's something she'll have to work on as we go forward.

Looking forward to what you think of book 2 when you're done with it. These books were certainly some of my favorite UF in the last two years. And quite curious about book 3, The Hour of Dust and Ashes which I'll begin reading tonight.Bastardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06262625208142078301noreply@blogger.com
